With the onset
of the festive season in the coming week, Nikon announced the launch of the follow
up on the Nikon D5100 in the form of the D5200, an entry level DSLR with an
improved DX-format CMOS sensor and an effective megapixel count of 24.1
megapixels. The camera comes with the EXPEED 3 processor, which is also found
in the Nikon D4. The D5200 is aimed at photographers who want quality but at an
affordable price. Mr. Hiroshi Takashina,
Managing Director, Nikon India said about the release, “The announcement is a testimony to Nikon’s leadership in the DSLR
category. We have specifically designed this new DSLR to provide users with
excellent performance that can be achieved by other higher-end models. With
this launch, the consumers will now be able to capture highly flexible image
expression, and reliability that ensures beautiful pictures.”
The D5200 sports a
swing out style Vari-angle LCD, which will help the users capture complicated
macros as well as self-portraits, something which is very much missing from the
D5100. The primary motive of the brand in releasing this product is to provide
a high-quality option to photographers in a compact and affordable body. Also,
after Canon upgraded its entry-level series to the 650D, Nikon now has a
contender to vie for the same spot, as the D5100 was lagging a little behind in
terms of specs when it comes to current market standards.
The camera is also
equipped with a large sensitivity spectrum; from ISO 100 to ISO 6400, which can
be further raised to Hi 2, which is an effective ISO of 25600, the same as the
D5100. The D5200 is able to connect wirelessly through the Wireless Mobile
Adapter WU-1a as well, so that you can connect it to your smartphone and share
your photographs instantaneously. The smart device, once connected wirelessly
to the camera, can also be used to remotely control the camera. Apart from
that, there is an option to create HDR images on the camera, something not
there in the D5100.
The Nikon D5200
will be available in three colours – black, red and bronze. Priced at an MRP of
Rs. 46,950, the camera does not sound expensive at all. The kit contains the D5200 body & an AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm
f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens. The camera will be available from December 2012 across
pan India, and as Nikon has released an entry-level entrant into the market
after a long time, we’ll definitely be reviewing it as soon as it’s on the
market shelves. We give you a small preview on the differences between the
